Reaching the right people in a tough labour market<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Last year the BSIA<\/strong> released a study that indicated that there would be a shortfall of over 60,000<\/strong> available licensed security officers in the UK<\/strong> during 2023<\/strong>. As we move towards the last quarter of 2023<\/strong>, most security companies would confirm these findings, with recruitment being harder than ever before. Just 2 years <\/strong>ago, I advertised for a role at a site in Ashford<\/strong>, Kent<\/strong>. It was for a Security Officer<\/strong>, working a flexible shift pattern, with a higher than average pay rate. In one week my company received over 60 applications<\/strong>. I interviewed over 35 people<\/strong>. We ended up recruiting 2 officers<\/strong> as the calibre of applicants was outstanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, using the traditional online recruitment methods, I advertised for a highly paid Security Officer role in Surrey, and received just 2 applications<\/strong>. Neither candidate was suitable. Where have all the decent Security Officers gone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Successful recruitment now needs different thinking. Sadly, we work in an industry tainted by cowboy, and fraudulently operating, training providers. Some employers are now performing basic industry knowledge tests as part of the interview process, in an attempt to weed out these dangerously incompetent individuals.
