Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, visitors, and contractors. The School Security Guard is responsible for protecting the school's people, buildings, and property while promoting a positive and professional presence at all times.
Job Overview
As a School Security Guard, you will play a key role in maintaining the safety and security of the school premises. You will monitor access to the site, patrol the grounds and respond to incidents. You will work closely with school staff, pupils, parents, and emergency services when required. A professional, approachable attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Provide a visible security presence throughout the school premises to help maintain a safe and secure environment.
Monitor and control access to the school, ensuring all visitors sign in and follow school safeguarding procedures.
Carry out regular patrols of the school buildings and grounds, identifying and reporting any suspicious behavior, hazards, or security concerns.
Respond promptly and appropriately to security incidents, emergencies, alarms, and requests for assistance.
Deal with conflict and challenging situations in a calm, professional, and respectful manner.
Accurately record, report, and document all incidents, observations, and activities in both written and verbal reports.
Assist with emergency evacuations, lockdown procedures, and other school emergency response plans.
Build positive relationships with staff, parents and visitors while maintaining professional boundaries.
Always act with integrity, honesty, and discretion, supporting the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.
Requirements
A valid SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guarding Licence.
Previous security experience is desirable; experience within a school or educational environment is an advantage.
A good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of protecting children and young people.
Excellent observation skills with the ability to remain alert and vigilant at all times.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions during incidents.
Physically fit and capable of carrying out regular patrols.
A professional, reliable, and approachable manner.
