Description
We are looking for experienced Security Officers to work in the Emergency Department of one of our NHS sites in Durham and to cover others sites in the Durham and Sunderland area. You will be responsible for protecting the security and safety of the identified building, employees and customers. You will ensure that assigned tasks are completed in a professional and timely manner and meet relevant legislation whilst maintaining outstanding customer service.
An Overview of some of your main responsibilities will include:
- First Line Support: Act as the first point of contact for employees and visitors, providing a professional, friendly, and supportive service.
- Premises Security: Secure premises and personnel through regular patrols, monitoring surveillance systems, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points, and managing entry permissions.
- Incident Response and Logging: Respond promptly to all assistance calls and emergencies, contacting emergency services when necessary. Maintain detailed incident logs and reports for the client’s authorised officer.
- Policy and Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to the client’s policies, procedures, and legal requirements, including Fire and Health and Safety regulations.
- Escort and Event Duties: Conduct escort duties for staff as required, and assist with security management during events.
- Emergency and Alarm Response: Respond swiftly to alarms and emergencies, securing the site and escalating situations when needed.
- Fire and Building Systems Monitoring: Monitor fire, security, and building systems to detect and respond to potential issues, ensuring fire safety equipment is operational.
- Access Control: Monitor and enforce exclusion protocols, control access points, and manage unauthorized access discreetly and professionally.
- Conflict De-escalation: Manage aggressive or disruptive individuals, using de-escalation techniques and physical restraint if trained and certified.
- Patrol and Hazard Management: Conduct regular patrols, identifying hazards or issues like spillages or maintenance needs, and report to relevant departments.
- Missing Persons and Lost Property: Assist in searches for missing patients and manage lost property according to client procedures.
- Surveillance and Vigilance: Maintain constant vigilance on patrol, monitoring for suspicious activity or potential hazards, and inspecting critical systems like water, gas, and electrical installations.
- Ad-hoc and Emergency Cover: Provide flexible security coverage as needed, ensuring business continuity and client standards are maintained when replacements are required.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare written reports of incidents before shift end, providing detailed statements as required by the client and police.
- Coordination in Major Incidents: Support emergency services during major incidents, including lockdowns, evacuations, and site searches.
- General Security Duties:Respond to other reasonable duties and directives from the client’s authorised officers or clinical team as required.
Work hours: 12 hours shifts available on days, nights and weekends.
To succeed in this role you will need the following:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong customer focus.
- SIA licence - Manned Guarding (SG) or Door Supervisor (DS) - essential.
- Clear DBS - essential.
- Driving Licence - essential.
- PMVA (Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression) certified - essential.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- A professional demeanour with sound judgement and integrity.
- Experience: 18 months work experience dealing with the general public in a customer orientated organisation in a position of trust.
- Personal qualities: smart appearance, enthusiastic, honest, trustworthy, diplomatic, calm sympathetic nature, sense of humour, confidence to speak in public, willingness to work any shift at short notice in an emergency.
