Description

Job Title: Fire Warden

Location: Hackney, London E9

Average Weekly Hours: Fixed term contract  

Wage: £12.21

Duration: Full time

Shift: Monday to Sunday 4 on 4 off 07.00 – 19.00 or 19.00 – 07.00

Patrols: 45 minute patrol 45 minute rest 

 

The candidates will be primarily responsible for responding in case of fire or emergency. The remaining time should be spent carrying out the duties asdescribed below.

 

The employee will need to complete online fire warden training before their first shift

 

The primary duty of a Fire Warden is to investigate in case of fire (or suspected fire) and to call the relevant emergency services if necessary. The Fire Warden’s duties areas follows:

 

  • Collect the on-call mobile, warden’s clipboard and fire pack at the beginning of every shift.
  • In case of thefire alarm sounding, check any flagged areas, not forgetting toilets cupboards and store rooms.
  • Encourage people to leave the building by the nearest available exit, in an orderly manner and direct people to theappropriate assembly point.
  • Do not use physical force or become involved inconfrontation. If you areaware of somebody remaining in the building then you are to inform the Fire Brigade on their arrival.
  • Assist the Fire Brigade in searching thebuildings if necessary. This includes providing the relevant keys and codes to access all areas of the buildings.
  • Report any other problems associated with the evacuation process to the senior person present.
  • Record and report any faults on the fire alarm system.
  • The Fire Warden MUST NOT put them self at risk in carrying out their duties.

 

Day to Day Duties (during the course ofyour shift)

 

  • To ensure that all fire exits and routes remain unobstructed.
  • To ensure that call points are visible and unobstructed


 

 

  • To check that fire extinguishers are not missing or obstructed.
  • To ensure that general housekeeping does not pose a fire risk e.g. storage of waste paper.
  • Report any evidence of smoking inside buildings.
  • Report any fire safety concerns.

 

Security

 

The Fire Warden will also be expected to carry out the daily security round every evening.

 

    Using the security plan provided they should check the following things:

 

  • All windows and doors are closed and locked securely.
  • All lights and electrical appliances (where not in use)are switched off.
  • Close blinds and curtains to protect the visibility of equipment and belongings.
  • Look out for unauthorised access or suspicious behaviour. Report to executive cover if necessary.
  • Ensure that all security alarms are intact.

 

The Fire Warden will also be responsible for attending tothe security bollardsduring their shift. This will entail responding to calls and opening/closing the bollards when necessary.

 

Additionally, the security warden should take the following action in case of incident:

 

  • Contact the police on 999 for emergencies or where a crime is in process.
  • Contact the police on111 for non-emergencies or where the crime has already taken place.
  • Contact the executive cover to report any incidents.
  • The security warden should not put themselves at any unnecessary risk.

 

General emergencies

 

The Fire Warden should also be on-hand in case of any general emergencies onsite. This may include medical emergencies or any serious maintenance issues.

 

    The Fire Warden will not be expected to have first aid training. In case of emergency call 999and ask for an ambulance. You should then report the incident to the executive cover.

    The Fire Warden will not be expected to give medical advice or treatment and is not responsible for dealing with general illness or non-emergency.
