Please note: this role is not for regular set shifts. It is an ad-hoc, flexible assignment opportunity — providing cover at short notice for sickness, holiday, and new site mobilisations. Successful team members who show reliability and flexibility with these shifts are always first in line for longer-term or permanent roles as they arise.
Are you an experienced security professional with a passion for safety and service?
We’re expanding our trusted Relief & Cover Team, providing high-quality, flexible cover across multiple premium student and residential sites within about 45 minutes’ travel of your home.
Key Responsibilities
- Front Desk & Access Control – greet and register residents, visitors and contractors; manage entry and exit processes with professionalism and warmth.
- Patrols & Visible Presence – conduct regular internal and external patrols, deter risks and provide reassurance to residents.
- Alarm & Incident Response – respond quickly to fire, intruder or personal attack alarms; liaise with emergency services when necessary.
- Concierge Support – deliver exceptional customer care, ensuring residents, staff and visitors feel safe, supported and valued.
- Customer Service Excellence – resolve queries politely and respectfully; reflect NGS’s professionalism and empathy at all times.
- Safety & Reporting – identify and address risks proactively; record incidents accurately using GuardHouse App
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 12 months’ professional security experience (concierge, guarding, door supervision or control room).
- Excellent English communication skills — fluent written and spoken English to engage confidently with residents, parents, visitors and management.
- Professional appearance — plain white shirt, black trousers, black shoes (no sportswear or trainers) with SIA badge clearly displayed; always smart, clean and presentable.
- Strong interpersonal skills — calm, respectful, and professional under pressure; able to build trust quickly.
- Adaptability & initiative — comfortable stepping into new environments, taking responsibility and adjusting to different site needs.
- Tech capable — able to use mobile reporting apps (e.g. GuardHouse).
Essential Requirements
- Valid SIA Licence (Door Supervisor or Security Guarding).
- Right to work in the UK — ## Pease note: we cannot consider applications from candidates whose visas restrict working hours (for example, most Student Visas or dependent visas with capped hours) ##
- Ability to travel within approx. 45 minutes of home, sometimes at short notice or outside normal public transport hours (own transport strongly preferred).
