Security Officer - HMP Gartree Construction Project
Location: HMP Gartree, Leicestershire
Position: Security Officer
Rate of Pay: £12.71 per hour
Average Hours: 48 - 54 hours per week
Shift Pattern: Rolling rota covering days, nights, weekends, and public holidays
About the Role
We are seeking professional, reliable, and experienced Security Officers to join our team at HMP Gartree, supporting the security requirements of an active construction project within the prison environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining site security, controlling access and egress, conducting extensive patrols, completing security documentation, and ensuring compliance with all site procedures and prison regulations.
This is a physically active role requiring officers to undertake regular foot patrols across a large construction site whilst utilising electronic patrol recording equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Control access and egress of all personnel, contractors, visitors, and vehicles entering and leaving the site.
- Operate and monitor access control systems, CCTV systems, and security alarms where required.
- Conduct frequent and extensive foot patrols throughout the construction site.
- Use electronic patrol recording equipment and NFC patrol systems to record patrol activity.
- Monitor site security and identify any breaches, hazards, suspicious activity, or unauthorised access.
- Complete incident reports, occurrence books, and daily security documentation accurately and professionally.
- Liaise with site management, contractors, and emergency services when required.
- Ensure compliance with all site-specific security procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, alarms, incidents, and security breaches.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
Essential Requirements
Licensing
Applicants must hold one of the following valid SIA licences:
- SIA Door Supervisor Licence (DS) - (SG Accepted)
- SIA CCTV Public Space Surveillance Licence - Desirable
- CSCS Accreditation
Experience
- Previous experience in a security role within construction, infrastructure, industrial, or high-security environments.
- Experience conducting mobile and foot patrols.
- Experience using electronic patrol recording systems.
- Experience operating Biosite access control / fire safety systems. Desirable, however training will be provided
- Strong report writing and incident management skills.
- Experience in operation and management of site CCTV systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Skills
- Computer literate with the ability to use security management systems.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent observational and problem-solving abilities.
- Reliable with excellent timekeeping and attendance.
Vetting & Screening Requirements
All successful applicants will be required to successfully complete:
- BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) Clearance
- BS7858 Security Screening and Vetting
- Right to Work checks
- Employment history verification
- Character and employment references
- Criminal record checks where applicable
Employment is subject to satisfactory completion of all vetting requirements.
Physical Requirements
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be capable of:
- Undertaking extensive foot patrols throughout the shift.
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Standing and walking for prolonged periods.
- Responding quickly to security incidents and emergencies.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Security Officer who is professional, vigilant, and confident working within a highly secure environment. Experience within construction projects, access control operations, CCTV monitoring, and electronic patrol management is highly desirable. Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest security standards at all times. Each candidate will be required to clear BPSS and BS7858 vetting criteria
