NGS Security is recruiting professional, reliable and service-focused Security Concierges to support Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA), residential and other managed properties across our portfolio.

We are particularly interested in people who can provide flexible cover, including:

• Ad-hoc shifts
• Sickness and holiday cover
• Short-notice and emergency cover
• Weekend and night work
• Regular part-time hours
• Medium to full-time hours
• Longer-term assignments

This role can work well for people wanting occasional additional shifts alongside other commitments, as well as those looking for more regular work.

The amount of work available will vary according to location, client requirements and your availability. Candidates willing to work across more than one suitable location are likely to have access to a wider range of opportunities.

THE ROLE

This is not simply a traditional static security position.

Our Security Concierges provide a combination of security, concierge, customer service and operational support.

Depending on the property, duties may include:

• Front-of-house and concierge services
• Resident and visitor assistance
• Access control and CCTV monitoring
• Internal and external patrols
• Responding to incidents, alarms and emergencies
• Parcel and delivery management
• Building and communal-area checks
• Light housekeeping and site presentation
• Litter picking
• Refuse and bin management
• Basic facilities support
• Scheduled water-flushing activities
• Contractor access and monitoring
• Property or room viewings
• Administrative duties and reporting

Duties vary between sites. Candidates must therefore be flexible and willing to undertake the reasonable security, concierge, housekeeping and site-support duties applicable to the assignment they accept.

Specialist maintenance, electrical or plumbing work is not normally part of the role unless an individual is appropriately qualified and specifically authorised.

SHIFT PATTERNS

Shift patterns vary considerably between locations and may include:

• Days or nights
• Weekdays and weekends
• Bank Holidays
• Fixed or variable rotas
• Ad-hoc individual shifts
• Short-notice cover
• 12-hour shifts
• Extended shifts exceeding 12 hours at some locations

You should only accept assignments where you can reliably attend for the full agreed shift.

For our flexible workforce in particular, reliability is critical.

There is no obligation to accept every shift offered on an ad-hoc basis. However, once you accept an assignment, we expect you to honour that commitment except in genuine exceptional circumstances.

People who consistently demonstrate reliability, flexibility, professionalism and strong performance are likely to be considered for further suitable opportunities as they arise.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

You may be responsible for:

• Providing a professional and welcoming reception service
• Supporting residents, visitors and contractors
• Managing access to the building
• Monitoring CCTV and security systems
• Completing regular patrols
• Responding to alarms, emergencies and incidents
• Maintaining accurate incident and patrol records
• Managing keys, fobs and access devices
• Receiving, recording and issuing parcels
• Supporting the presentation and cleanliness of communal areas
• Moving or rotating refuse and recycling bins where required
• Undertaking reasonable litter-picking duties
• Completing basic building and facilities checks
• Reporting defects, damage, hazards or maintenance concerns
• Supporting authorised contractors
• Completing shift handovers and digital reports
• Following site-specific instructions and operating procedures

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

You must have:

• A valid SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guarding Licence
• Full Right to Work in the UK
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Strong communication and customer-service skills
• Good IT skills and confidence using digital systems
• The ability to work independently and use good judgement
• The ability to remain calm and professional during incidents
• A flexible approach to duties
• The ability to undertake reasonable physical duties, including patrols, parcel handling and moving bins
• Reliable travel arrangements for the start and finish times of any assignment accepted
• Willingness to work longer shifts where these form part of the assignment

EXPERIENCE

Experience in any of the following would be beneficial but not specifically required:

• PBSA / Student Accommodation
• Residential developments
• Hotels or hospitality
• Concierge services
• Security
• Facilities management
• Customer service

Previous experience is desirable, but attitude, reliability, professionalism and flexibility are equally important.

First Aid, Fire Warden and Mental Health First Aid qualifications are advantageous, although additional training may be provided where appropriate.

WHO WE WANT

We are looking for people who are:

• Reliable and punctual
• Professional and well presented
• Friendly and customer-focused
• Calm under pressure
• Confident communicators
• Flexible about the duties they undertake
• Comfortable working independently
• Proactive and willing to take responsibility
• Able to adapt to different sites and environments

If your idea of security is simply sitting behind a desk for an entire shift, this probably isn't the role for you.

If you enjoy dealing with people, take pride in your workplace, can be relied upon and are willing to get involved in the wider operation of a property, we would like to hear from you.

RIGHT TO WORK AND VISA RESTRICTIONS

Due to the nature of our shift patterns and operational requirements, applicants must have the legal right to work the hours associated with the assignments offered.

This role is not suitable for applicants who are subject to Student visa working-hour restrictions, a 10 or 20-hour weekly working limit, or any other visa condition that restricts their ability to undertake the required working hours.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate an appropriate Right to Work in the UK and must disclose any restrictions affecting the hours or type of work they are legally permitted to undertake.

Right to Work and any applicable working restrictions will be verified before an assignment is offered.
